• Uses a full range of learning techniques to prepare an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to efficiently and confidently operate, maintain and repair Engine systems to the required level.
• Provides participants with practical skills necessary to perform and certify the maintenance tasks within the scope of the licence held.
• Includes performing Maintenance Manual Tasks that cover a cross section from the relevant ATA chapters representative of the aircraft and systems both in complexity and technical ability required to complete the task. While relatively simple tasks may be included, other more complex maintenance tasks shall be incorporated and undertaken as appropriate to the aircraft type.
The objective of OJT is to gain the required competence and experience in performing safe maintenance and may or may not use structured learning processes.
This training is usually peer to peer and shall take place on aircraft or component at the workplace involving actual task performance.
The OJT program includes both Line and Base maintenance tasks.
The OJT program will:
• Provide a mechanism for trainees to demonstrate competence in performing safe maintenance, and
• Ensure that the operation, function, installation and safety significance of key maintenance tasks covered during types training is adequately addressed; particularly where these cannot be fully explained during the theoretical training delivery.
Structured OJT is performed according to a type-specific program and includes training in maintenance of the aircraft, rigging, adjustments, replacement of line replaceable units, troubleshooting, rectification of minor defects and testing of systems covering each element of the program.
This program is A STAND-ALONE OJT program. It can be used by aircraft maintenance engineers as an alternative to Practical-on-Course (POC) or Practical Consolidated Training (PCT).
This program provides:
• The 100% (Mandatory) OJT requirement for the second and subsequent type ratings, and
• The 25% of OJT requirement when coupled to the 100% (Mandatory) OJT requirement for 1st of Type rating outcome.
Following this OJT pathway, you can achieve a licensing outcome as follows:
• Theory + 100% OJT + 25% OJT – For First of Type, or
• Theory + 100% OJT – For Second and subsequent Type.
The sequence of undertaking POC & OJT need not be concurrent. Additionally, you do not require the Type Course theoretical outcome to undertake this OJT.
There are no prerequisites to commencing the OJT program, however you should be employed in a maintenance environment that will allow you to undertake the relevant tasks.
This environment should be a CAR 30 or Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO).
This program consists of a number of effective ways the LAME / Supervisor can approach OJT:
• Coaching or One-On-One Training.
• Mentoring Programs.
• Job Rotation.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME) or Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME) intending to acquire a variation to their Part 66 Category B1.1 Aircraft Maintenance Licence:
• Unlicensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers seeking their First Licence.
• Experienced licensed engineers seeking an additional rating in a category currently held.
• Experienced licensed engineers seeking first licence in another category.
• Engineers seeking to achieve the practical requirements in lieu of completing the POC or PCT.
Maintenance Tasks performed in accordance with the Manufacturers Approved Maintenance Data in the employer’s workplace / CAR30 / Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) must be assessed by a qualified assessor.
The assessor is a LAME / Supervisor qualified on the aircraft Type.
During the OJT program Trainees are required to complete the minimum requirements indicated in the Approved OJT Logbook.
It is the responsibility of the CAR 30/AMO Part 145 Assessor to ensure that the criteria stated in the OJT Logbook are met prior to forwarding the OJT logbook to QAC for the OJT Validation, Assessment, and Approval before reporting the outcome to CASA.
